Introduction

There is a feeling of quiet optimism following last week’s announcements that schools are to start their phased reopening later in the month. This signals a small step forward….  Welcome I’m sure to many parents who have been juggling working from home and the dreaded home schooling! As we see COVID infection levels come down and increasing numbers of patients receiving the vaccine we start to see a long-awaited light at the end of tunnel.

In terms of businesses, there is no tangible change yet.  Those that are open need to continue to follow COVID guidance and where employees are home working, continue to support staff there. It was national talk day last week, an initiative to support positive mental health. Have you spoken to your staff to ask how they are? Have discussions been solely focused on work outputs? Anytime is a good time to ask simply “how are you feeling”?

Training Funding – Construction

We are often asked whether funding is available to assist with training, and we cannot promote the CITB Skills and Training fund enough! This allows CITB levy registered customers funding towards a variety of training courses. From smaller companies courses such as training towards CSCS cards and first aid up to tailored H&S courses and specialist plant for those that need this. Funding starts at up to £5,000 for the year ahead and is up to a maximum of £10,000.

We were delighted to have supported 3 companies last week submit their funding applications that totalled circa £20,000.

Apprenticeship news

The apprenticeship Employers Grant (AEG) is available to help you recruit new modern or graduate apprentices within your business or upskill existing employees.

Funding is available depending on the age of candidates.

It is available for apprenticeships registered by 25th March or when funding limits are exceeded, whichever is soonest. Check out www.apprenticeships.scot for more details.
