Course Aim

This course will provide learners with improved and refreshed knowledge of recent developments in construction, legislation and health, safety, welfare and environmental issues.  It will also allow learners to identify measures which will assist the practical implementation of responsibilities established by new legislation and working practices.

This course is endorsed by Build UK as the standard training for all construction supervisors.

Course Content

The course will cover: 

  • How health and safety law is structured 
  • How the supervisory role fits in with the manager’s role in controlling the site safely 
  • Understanding the need for method statements 
  • Construction Site Health, Safety and Welfare 
  • Communication routes within site activity 
  • Behavioural safety 
  • Supervision of occupational health 

Training is delivered in a classroom environment, with group interaction throughout. 

Who should attend

This SSSTS renewal is for supervisors who currently hold a valid SSSTS certificate. 

The refresher must be completed before the certificate expires or delegates will need to re-take the full course.  

How to prepare

Delegates should hold, or be about to hold, the role of a supervisor. Delegates must be competent in English at site supervisor level.  

Duration

1 day

Assessment

Assessment will be by an end of course examination and the trainer review. The delegate must pass the exam and pass all three elements of the trainer review. 

The assessment consists of 25 questions, a number of which are safety critical and require written answers, with the remainder being multiple choice.  Delegates must achieve a score of 80% or more in order to pass the course.

Price

£170 per person + VAT. 

Group/closed courses from £150 +VAT, for a minimum of 5 learners. 

Validity

Certification for this course is valid for 5 years. To remain certified in this area, you will need to take a refresher course before the expiry date on your certificate, otherwise the full course will need to be retaken.
