This REHIS approved course provide learners with the skills and knowledge needed to deal with a range of emergency first aid situations, should someone be injured or become ill while at work.

This qualification is levelled on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework (SCQF) at level 5, 1 credit.

1. The Role of the First Aider

2. First Aid Incidents

3. Unconscious casualty
 Managing an unresponsive casualty

4. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
 Principles of resuscitation
 Basic life support
 Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
 Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

5. Choking
 Obstruction and breathing disorders
 Recognition and first aid treatment of choking

6. Wounds and Bleeding
 Types of bleeding
 Wounds and embedded objects
 First aid treatment of bleeding, wounds and embedded objects

7. Shock
 Recognition and first aid treatment of shock

8. Minor Injuries
 Appropriate first aid treatment of minor injuries including small cuts, grazes
and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters

Attendee Numbers
Minimum of 4, maximum of 12 learners.

Who should attend Emergency First Aid at Work?

The course is for those who have a specific responsibility at work, to provide first aid in a range of emergency first aid situations.

It is also recommended for people who have a specific responsibility to provide basic first aid in voluntary and community activities.

Courses are held at our training centre in Kirkcaldy, delivered by our team of instructors.

This course can also be delivered to groups at your location, or at a location close to you by one of our carefully selected third party providers.

Assessment

4 x Practical assessments and 1 x Theory assessment.

Validity

The qualification is valid for 3 years and learners must re-take the qualification and assessment prior to the certificate expiring to remain qualified.
